“Stranger in the Room"

DESCRIPTION & FORMAT :  

We invite you to our next Backgammon Tournament “Stranger in the Room” which will be held on Saturday the 10th  & 11th of January 2026 and will be a Swiss Style - 5 Lives + Top 16 will progress onto the Double Elimination + Consolation Rounds. All other players will be out of this tournament.

This Tournament will be OPEN to ANYONE that wants to participate.

Players will be guaranteed 5 matches in this Tournament.

TOP 16 :  
Once the TOP 16 players have been determined they will progress to a Double Elimination with Consolation Rounds. 

If it isn't clear who the TOP 16 players are, then Knockout rounds of 3 points maybe played until the TOP 16 have been asertained. 

VENUE :
Georges Bar, Av. Kurt Konrad, El Madroñal, Adeje, Tenerife. (You may search for it via Google Maps)

FEES :
Registration Fee - €20  + Entry Fee - €35* ( * - All back into the Tournament)

THE SATURDAY :
9:00-10:00 Registration & Announcement.

10:30 Main Swiss 5 Lives Tournament - 5 Pointers

Play-offs for the final places in the last 16 if there are any ties (1 point matches) 

PAYOUT : 
Overall Winner = 70% + 10BC & FEBG Trophy
Runner Up = 30% + 10BC & FEBG Trophy

The Overall Winner & Runner Up will be introduced into the 10BC Golden Point - Hall of Fame at a future date for outstanding achievements.

SIDE POOLS :
There will be optional side pools of €10, €20, €30 & €50. Payment for side pools will be taken on the Day.

ADDITIONAL KNOCKOUTS : 
Didn't get as far as you wanted to? We'll be running 8 player knockouts throughout the day at €10 or €20 per player. 

MANDATORY PLAY :

1. Clocks : Clocks will be in play at 2 minutes per point, (eg, 5 point matches 10 minutes, 7 point matches 14 minutes.) you got it.
2. Precision dice are mandatory (we have enough)
3. Dice Shakers or Baffle boxes (Not permitted to throw the dice from the hand)
4. Legal Dice have to be laying flat on the right hand side of the board. Cocked dice or dice on checkers are not allowed.
5. Premature Rolling, The Dice MUST STAY on the board, please don't pick them up that is your roll. 

MATCHES :

1. MAIN (up to semi finales): 5 point matches in the main,
2. SEMI FINALES : 7 Point Matches, 
3. MAIN FINAL : 13 point match for the Final, The Consolation winner will need to win both matches to be the overall winner.

PLEASE NOTE :

1. Tournament will be capped at 32 players,
2. This Tournament will be open to any player,
3. Registration will open at 9:00am and close at 10:00am on the same day as the Tournament,
4. All matches will start at 10:30am,
5. If you are spectating please do not speak to the players or distract them,
6. If you are late, you will lose 1 point for every 10 minutes you are late,
7. Players who lose half their points due to being late will forfeit that round, and their opponent will be granted an automatic win, 
8. This will be a ONE DAY event, 
9. Please be on time,
10. Please don't be busy,
11. Please be very careful of all the equipment you are using,
12. Please becareful of your drinks, food, chewing gum etc etc around the equipment,
13. Please treat players with respect especially the Restaurants Staff & the other customers,
14. You are representing our club whilst you are there,
15. You are responsible for paying your Restaurant Bill,
16. The Tournament Director can change or modify these rules as and when he see fit to do so,
17. The Tournament Director will always have the final say, please respect that,
18. These rules can be modified as and when before the tournament final start date/time without due notice. Please pay attention to the 10BC Tenerife Backgammon Clubs – Facebook group and Challonge for any announcements,
19. Ruling Committee will be comprised of 3 people, (Please see  - Rules Nº 20,21,22)
